Greyhound Rescue was set up to find homes for the many greyhounds surplus to requirements of the racing industry and launched our main website in 2009. In that time we have found homes for more than 600 greyhounds which otherwise would not have had a life after finishing their racing career or failing to start one.

It is based in Sydney and is run by Peter and Janet, a retired couple, who have worked in dog rescue for many years and devoted their attention to Greyhounds in particular for the past nine years. More recently a number of volunteers have joined us and have added hard work and imagination to help the greyhounds.

Greyhound Rescue currently has about 70 greyhounds in its care, some at home, some with foster carers and some in kennels. There are always more coming in or waiting to come in that need to find a loving home. Racing greyhounds have generally lived their lives in kennels and it is important that they spend some time in a home to learn to adjust to everyday happenings and sounds, like TV sets, vacuums, washing machines, small dogs, children, etc.

Greyhounds by nature are very gentle and affectionate. They don’t need a lot of exercise, don’t lose much hair, don’t have that ‘doggy smell’, rarely bark and make excellent family pets. If you need reassurance about this go to our website http://www.greyhoundrescue.com.au and in the ’Success Stories’ section you will see some beautiful photographs of greyhounds with children, on beaches, on holidays and having a great time with families in general.
